How To Get Your Blind Repaired

Let’s be honest, nobody wakes up excited to deal with broken blinds. You just want them to go up when you say “up” and down when you say “down”. But then one day, one side won’t budge, the cords are tangled, and the whole thing’s hanging on for dear life.
If your blinds are stuck, uneven, or just plain refusing to cooperate, you are not alone. At Ogden Blinds, we make repairs quick, stress-free, and just a call away!

We’re the experts when it comes to blind repair! We get a lot of calls for fixes, so we wanted to share some quick, knowledgeable tips to help you understand your blinds better to make calling us super easy!

How a Repair Call Usually Goes

You: “Hello, I have a blind that needs repairing”

Me: “What kind of blind?”

You: “I don’t know”

Me: “What brand is it?”

You: “I don’t know”

Me:  “How old is the blind?”

You: “About 20 years old”

Me: “Can you find the manufacturer label?”

You: “I’m not near the blind to look”

We ask a lot of questions for the “I don’t know” person because we need to determine if we can help. If you tell the doctor you don’t feel good, they will ask you all kinds of questions. Ogden Blinds understands it can be aggravating to try to answer questions you don’t know.  We do get “please just come and look”. Unfortunately, no one wants to pay for a service call that we can’t fix, which is why we ask all the questions featured below. Our goal is to be cost effective for you!

How To Identify What Kind Of Blind You Have

There are dozens of different ways to identify what kind of blinds you have. Here are some of the questions I will ask when you call for a repair,

1. What kind of blind do you have?

One easy way to tell what kind of blind you have is by the lift system, or the system you use to raise/lower your blinds. If it is:

  • Cordless with handle – LiteRise ®
  • Cord loop- EasyRise ®
  • Motorized- PowerView ®
  • Retractable wand- Ultaglide ®

The other way to identify the blind is by looking at. Is it a pleated/ honeycomb shade? Is it a horizontal blind with 1 inch metal slats or 2 inch wood or faux woods? Is it a fabric roman shade? Is it a woven wood made with sticks and twigs? Perhaps a roller shade? You can also always check out our gallery for reference!

2. Is it Hunter Douglas?

You can check the brand by looking for manufacturer labels or stickers. Most blinds have an identifying label hidden somewhere either:

  • Inside the headrail
  • On the bottom rail or end-caps
  • On the tassels or handles

These labels are where you can find the brand, model or collection, order or serial number, and the date of manufacture, which all make identifying your shade simple. Just describe the issue you have been having, and we will let you know how we can fix it!

3. In-home or Drop-Off?

The last step is to decide if you would prefer to drop it off at our home based shop in Oswego, or if you would like us to come to you! Drop-off is available 24/7, all you have to do is leave your blind with your name and number on the covered porch and we will let you know when it’s ready for pickup. If you would rather it be a one and done errand, we can schedule an in-home repair for an additional charge.

The great thing about blinds and window shades is they can last around 20 years with proper use and maintenance. But, their longevity can prove difficult when looking for parts to make repairs with. When fixing 20 year old blinds, we try our best to reference our scrap parts collection we have been working on for over 30 years, but cannot guarantee we will be able to find a replacement. Similar to cars, blind parts go out of production, and you can only imagine how obscure the 20 year old blind part corner of Ebay is.

When it comes to blind repair services, a little maintenance goes a long way. Whether it’s a small fix or a full replacement, Ogden Blinds makes the process simple, efficient, and maybe even a little fun!

Schedule your repair today and see the difference professional blind service can make.
