Provenance® Woven Wood Shades: Artisanal Elegance for Your Chicago Suburb Home

Bring the calming, organic beauty of the outdoors into your living space with Hunter Douglas Provenance® Woven Wood Shades. Crafted from renewable materials like bamboo, reeds, grasses, and jute, these shades are more than just a window covering, they are a handcrafted design statement.

At Ogden Blinds, we bring these textured, artisanal shades to homes throughout the Western and Southern Chicago suburbs, from the modern farmhouses of Geneva and Naperville to the cozy retreats in Frankfort and all the way out to Ottawa, IL.

Why Provenance® Woven Wood Shades?

Unlike many “big box” bamboo blinds, the Hunter Douglas Provenance® collection is engineered for longevity and precision. These are not just woven; they are artistically crafted to ensure they stand the test of time in the shifting Illinois climate.

  • Durable by Design: Hunter Douglas uses specialized weaving techniques that minimize stretching, bowing, and breaking. Your shades will look as crisp and beautiful years from now as they do on installation day.
  • A Whole-Home Solution: Provenance® is available in three distinct styles: Roman, Waterfall Roman, and Vertical Drapery. This allows you to coordinate standard windows and large sliding glass doors in the same room with the exact same material.
  • Light Control Without Limits: Choose from four opacity levels, from sheer to opaque. Whether you want to softly filter the sun in your St. Charles kitchen or completely block it out in an Orland Park bedroom, there is a weave for you.
  • Sustainable Beauty: Made from 100% natural fibers, these shades are an eco-friendly choice that adds rich, tactile dimension to your interior design.

Exclusive Features & Enhancements

The Independent Operable Liner

One of the most popular upgrades for our clients is the Independent Operable Liner. Unlike traditional liners that are sewn onto the back, this liner operates separately on the same headrail.

  • Daytime: Raise the liner to enjoy the beautiful, filtered light through the woven wood.
  • Nighttime: Lower the liner for total privacy and room darkening.
  • Energy Efficiency: The liner features a 3/8” cellular honeycomb design, adding an extra layer of insulation against the Chicago winter.

Advanced Operating Systems

  • PowerView® Automation: Control your shades with a remote, an app, or your voice. Set them to open at sunrise and close at sunset automatically.
  • LiteRise®: A cordless “push-up, pull-down” system that is the gold standard for child and pet safety.
  • UltraGlide®: A unique retractable cord system that stays a constant, safe length.
  • Top-Down/Bottom-Up: Allows you to lower the top of the shade to let in light and sky views while keeping bottom closed for total privacy from the street.

Customization: The Finishing Touches

Make your Provenance® shades truly your own with decorative accents:

  • Edge Banding: Add a fabric border in a contrasting color to frame your window and prevent fraying.
  • Valance Options: Choose from various valance styles to hide the headrail and provide a polished, finished look

Are woven wood shades difficult to clean and maintain?

Not at all! Because they are made of natural fibers, we recommend regular light dusting with a soft cloth or a vacuum with a brush attachment to prevent dust from settling into the weave. For deeper cleaning, you can spot-clean with a damp cloth, but avoid harsh chemicals or saturating the wood, as moisture can affect natural fibers over time.

Can I see through these shades at night?

Natural woven woods have small gaps between the fibers. While they provide excellent daytime privacy, people outside may be able to see silhouettes at night when your lights are on. For the best nighttime privacy in bedrooms or bathrooms, we highly recommend adding a Privacy or Blackout liner.

How do these handle the hot Illinois summers and cold winters?

By themselves, woven woods provide a natural barrier against solar heat. However, for maximum energy efficiency, we recommend pairing them with a liner. This creates an insulating air pocket that helps keep your Naperville or Tinley Park home cooler in the summer and retains heat during the winter months.

Will these shades fade in direct sunlight?

Because they are made from natural materials, some slight color shifting is normal over many years—similar to how hardwood floors age. However, Hunter Douglas treatments are designed to be UV-resistant, and adding a liner to the back of the shade provides an extra layer of protection for the natural fibers against the sun.
